Powder Filling Systems

Powder dosing is sometimes considered a Black Art. Physical powder properties often vary between batch and always between formulation. We take an extremely scientific approach to Powder dosing.

Firstly we aim to map out the powder characteristics. We look at the Following Powder Characteristics:

  • Particle Size
  • Agglomeration
  • Carrs Index for flowability
  • Density These characteristics are evaluated under different Atmospheric conditions. The resulting analysis will give us a working Relative Humidity range in which we can dose the given powder. The analysis will select physical machine surface treatment properties such as electro-plating or brushing.

    Based on these values we are able to select a dosing system from our standard dosing principles.

    A wide range of filling technologies for a wide range of applications

  • Drum dosing for small quantities of APIs
  • Dosator Dosing for powder into capsules, vials or Blisters
  • Tamping pin for back fill powders
  • Auger Dosing for large fills
  • Membrane Filling to fill a cavity to a level in application such as Powder into Blisters for inhalation. We currently use these filling systems for Powder into Capsule, Powder into Blister or Powder into Sachets or Vials. Many of these Powder dosing systems are modular and can be mounted on dosing trolleys for use as part of a Powder into Blister, capsule Filling or Vial Filling machine.

    Powder Dosing Services Available

    Reducing Risk: A common path for Powder Dosing Machinery selection would involve the following:
    1. Powder Analysis. Deliverable would be a report with Graphs details the powder properties and recommended Powder Dosing systems.
    2. Powder Dosing Trials: Using the recommended or other Powder dosing system we would carry out trials in our Clean rooms with your formulation to verify the required Relative Stand Deviation (RSD) of the fill weight required.
    3. Machine Purchase or Rental. Subject to the project requirements a Standard OmniDose Powder Filling Machine or ModuC Capsule Filling machine could be rented or purchased. Alternatively a Customised solution could be developed having proven the ability to Dose the given powder and hence eliminating the primary risk associated with that product.
