Retrofitable automatic flying web splice system | Thu, 15 April 2010 |
It can be very difficult to find an web splicing system to cGMP standard. Harro Hofliger have addressed this with their retrofitable PMK300 AS unit with double unwinder, splicing units , web buffers, pull rollers, dancing rollers and independent HMI and in GMP balcony design.
Web widths up to 300mm and speeds up to 75m/min can be handled in either right and left hand execution

High resolution mass determination sensor | Sat, 10 April 2010 |
We now have available a new mass determination (weighing) sensor for powders. This is available as an option on our Modu C capsule filling machines and Omnidose powder filling systems. It is compatible with both the drum filler for cohesive powders and the conventional dosator powder filler. The benefit of the sensor is that no tare weight needs to be taken and the system is much faster, being able to work in real time, than a weighcell.
The sensor is able to determine fill weights in the range of 0,5 mg to > 500 mg. and can determine the weights of powders, granules and pellets. The sensor creates a mass proportional signal. The measured value will be transformed into a weight value using a batch-specific calibration factor.
The variance of the sensor system, expressed as relative standard deviation when compared to a laboratory balance, is ≤ 3% for powders and pellets

New Integrated Tablet Counter Capper Machine | Tue, 30 March 2010 |
Deckert have fitted a 6 lane counting module on a standard capping and labelling starwheel and created a monoblock counter, capper and labeller. Incoming bottles are filled, capped and then a wrapround self adhesive label is applied on the starwheel, which operates in intermittent motion.
Bottle air cleaning , unscrambling and other standard tablet counting line features are also available. Bottles can be weighed on the starwheel to confirm the already very high accuracy count of the Cremer counting head.
The complete system can handle bottles up to 75 mm in diameter and 150 mm high and run at up to 2000 bottles an hour, depending on the bottle and the tablet count.

Stock Aerosol Leak Detecting Machine Being Built | Thu, 4 March 2010 |
From 29 April 2010, for the first time, compliance with all aspects of the Aerosol Dispensers Directive (ADD) and the application of the reversed epsilon compliance mark is mandatory under UK law.
As preparation we are building a stock Aerocan Leak Detector. This small 800 x 800 mm machine is capable of testing cans at up to 100 cans per minute, either after the water bath, or as part of the water bath alternative. It uses a single sensor head and can be calibrated in less than 10 minutes.
The machine, which is available for rental, has been verified by Paul Dewhirst of Bourgoynes to comply with the water bath alternative requirements of ADR 2007 and the BAMA standard.

Double dose blister pack | Tue, 16 February 2010 |
Rohrer have been working on a unit dose blister pack with a twist. It is common to have unit dose blister packs with a variety of opening methods. (for example, the Swiss machinery company is just delivering a blister line with robotic loading of unit dose blister with a biologic unit pack.) There are even systems with two forms with different products which are opened together and applied or taken at the same time. But Rohrer’s innovation is to design a blister which actively mixes the two ingredients as they are squeezed out of the blister. This is thought to be a unique system in disposable unit packs. Such a double blister with active mixing is thought to be applicable in such fields as combination drug therapies, drugs which cannot be mixed in transit, animal health applications and novel cosmetic disposable single use packs.

cGMP filling of liquid eyedrops and biologics | Mon, 8 February 2010 |
Harro Hofliger have just shipped a machine for aseptic filling of liquid eyedrops and biologics into plastic unit dose tube like containers.
As is common with highly potent biotech drugs, a very precise fill volume was critical. Additionally, because of the heat sensitivity of the biologic API, HH used their advanced sealing technology to prevent heating of the liquid during the sealing process. The wall thickness of the final plastic device was critical for the stability of the drug formulation and the machine design had to ensure that this was not compromised during the filling and sealing process Machine design was of course suitable for aseptic filling in cGMP clean room.

Full Order books for new Mid Speed Capsule Filler | Mon, 27 July 2009 |
There are currently 5 Mid Speed capsule fillers on order. Cabable of producing 100,000 Capsules per hour, the ModuC MS Capsule Filler is designed to offer the same flexibility that its little sister, the ModuC LS offered but at higher throughputs.Instead of handling three capsules per cycle the machine handles 10. Furthermore the reject has been optimised to reject only a single capsule intead of a complete cycle. Harro Hoefliger are actively developing dosing trolleys for the new machine. Currently completed are the Dosator, Pellet and Tamping Pin. Close behind is the drum filler.Read more about Capsule Filling Machines |
Checkwiegher Vision Sensor Launched at Achema | Tue, 16 June 2009 |

Order Picking in the Deep Freeze: De-layering | Fri, 12 June 2009 |
Ro-ber have delivered a robotic de-layering system into a deep freeze, working at temperatures of -27˚C. 300 SKUs are handled on a special universal gripper with vacuum and gripper functions. Not only is this wide range of formats be handled on the universal head, part layers or layers with holes in the pallet pattern are handled by means of the intelligent gripper control which compensates for such variation automatically.
Not only is the system able to handle 300 incoming formats, is builds up to 12 outgoing order or shop pallets simultaneously at up to 240 layers an hour.
Often interlayers can give problems to less sophisticated “universal “ de- layering systems. However Ro-ber have solved this issue as well by a modification on the robot head and a special software function. Height too, which can be a challenge on other systems is also handled by elegant design of the portal robot configuration.

Burgoynes Report Verifies Leak Detector Compliance | Fri, 12 June 2009 |
The Verification Report describes how the Aerocan Leak Detector complies to the British Aerosol Manufacturers (BAMA) standard, including its safety and zoning requirements. It also details how the leak detector complies to the requirements of ADR 2007 for use as part of the water bath alternative.
The machine as supplied by Raupack designated Aerocan 100 (the machine)
is capable of fulfilling the requirements of ADR 2007 of a leak tester for filled
aerosols as part of the approved alternative to the Water Bath method.
