Bautz Supplies Aerosol Can Buttoning Machine AeroSAM for Lubricant Spray Heads with Spray Tubes

The customer was a manufacturer of Industrial Aerosols who has Bautz Leak testing machines on site. They were looking for a purpose built machine that would increase the output of their line from 20 to 40 actuators per min. The new system was to be fed manually. This would keep the equipment cost low and eliminate the need for change parts to run other actuator sizes. The operator’s involvement would maximise flexibility to handle other sizes and shapes in the future.

In the Aerosol Industry Bautz are known for their leak detectors and Valve function testing machines. Bautz has just delivered its first Actuator placement or buttoning machine to place actuators with folding spray tubes.

The actuator is used for lubricant sprays and the spray tube allows the end user to target the specific area to lubricate. However the bulky size and dimensions did not fall within the scope of standard solutions in the industry. As such the machine was built to suit the actuator. The overall dimensions of the machine are small only 600 x 840 mm.

The compact Amacoder machine is only 1 metre long fitting into nearly every production line. At the infeed a pusher pushes oncoming carton into the machines main transport. Cartons are transported back to back without any space between cartons. This shortens the machine considerably. An inkjet printer prints all serial data onto the carton.  A label applicator  applies the Tamper labels. A Hicof camera system verifies the Print. Changeover is fast and simple, carried out in less than 10 minutes, formats are saved on the machines recipe system and guides are quickly adjusted.

The Software: Amacena – GxP Compliant Cloud based Serialisation Data Integration

Level 1 to 3 data integration are included in the machine purchase as standard. These process line control, serial numbers in the machine, rejects, batch records and sampling as well as communication with the Marketing Authorisation Holder (MAH) through private data hubs.  Level 4s serial number generation and communication with authorities (e.g. EMA, FDA) are available as options.

Monoblock Liquid Filling Machine for Deodorant and Perfumes

Rudolf Deckert Ships Monoblock Liquid Filling and Closing Machine to manufacture perfumes and Deodorants

The FVR Monoblock liquid filling machine combines filling, screwing, capping and weighing into one machine capable of 100 containers per minute. The modular monoblock design packs these features into around 8m of length.

The customer, a cosmetics manufacturer with a focus on natural products, already had Deckert machines of previous generations to the FVR Monoblock liquid filling machine. Unlike its predecessors, the FVR combined multiple closing stations, check weighers and filling pumps into a single modular machine. This reduced the space and change parts required.

Designed to meet the customers specific requirements the machine was built with capping stations to handle roll on deodorants, over-caps as well as pump spray heads with dip tubes. Many products that run on the machine require a combination of closures to be applied on the machine, e.g roll on balls as well as screw caps or lotion spray closures as well as over-caps.

Filling at 100 per minute with in Place Cleaning and Sterilisation

Eight filling nozzles follow the bottles as they index through the machine. Cleaning and sterilisation can happen in place (CIP, SIP). Fill volumes are controlled from the HMI and can be saved in the recipe. The pumps draw the liquid from IBC containers located behind the machine. Changeover of the liquid is simple: choose the recipe from the menu and bring the right liquid to the machine. The machine will do the rest.

Quality Assured – Weighing and Closing

Mounted under the rake of the machine, before and after the filling station, are load cells that measure gross and tare weights for every fill on the machine. This 100% control is saved to the machines batch records and can be downloaded for quality control purposes.

The final screwing station is fitted with servo drives which accurately control the final application torque of the screw closure. Like the weight results, these values are stored and can be downloaded.

Cap presence and placement is monitored as well as bottle presence before filling.

Monoblock liquid filling machine makes Changeovers fast and repeatable

The use of pucks on the monoblock liquid filling machine and the FVRs automatic height adjustment makes changeover of containers simple: the pucks must be exchanged and the containers switched. Selecting the correct recipe from the HMI will cause all stations to adjust to the new container height.

Tailored to the customers Demands

Deckert are known for their willingness to tailor there machines to their customers specific requirements. In this case, the machine needed to fill from 40 ml to 200 ml at 100 bottles per minute. The viscosity of the liquid varies from pefume to lotions (i.e water to cream). The customer specified the pump manufacturer.  The closures also vary widely ranging from deo balls to spray pumps with dip tubes and over-caps.

It is important to the customer that the hoppers for closures are accessible from the operator side. The bunkers are located on the operator side and elevators transfer the closures to the bowls that are located on the back side of the machine.

The FVR  is part of Rudolf Deckerts range of modular, monoblock filling machines for tablets, powers and liquids. Hallmarks of the AVR Capping machine series of machines are:

The growth of internet orders has seen a growth in the dispatch of packages of unpredictable dimensions making flexibility the new manta. The resulting required flexibility has often meant that automation is cost prohibitive. This is because automatic case sealers need to be able to handle packages of different footprints and heights. Further, for dispatch operations to minimise costs dead space inside the box needs to be eliminated so that costly backfill products are no longer needed and shipping costs are reduced. The environmental and financial benefits of these material reductions are self-evident. Good looking packages

The Vario 588 Case sealer automatically measures the height of the contents of the case and cuts the box down to just above the level of the contents. The taping mechanism moves locate the tape line over the flap edge. The result is a case that looks professional. The ability to cut down the case height allows the dispatch operation to reduce the number of case sizes that need to be stocked.

Self-adhesive or Gummed Tape

Opitz has a history in gummed tape application. A gummed tape bonds natively to the cases fibres and forms a seal suitable for air freight. The finish is attractive, can be printed and recycled. The Vario 588 volume reducing box closing machine can be supplied with either Gummed tape or self-adhesive tape.

Flexibility is part of Opitz Maschinentechnik’s DNA.  Their machine range can be adapted to suit the size of the box as required. Other products from Opitz include the GO 795 family of case erectors. These can be fitted with multiple magazines to allow different size cases to be erected on the fly making them the natural partner of the Vario 588 box volume reducer.

The RS570 small scale sterile blister sealing machine is designed for manual blister sealing in containment. Unlike its sister the R560 the RS570 is designed fully cGMP for sterile packing applications. Containment solution with Glove ports allow the operator to place seal products on small batch runs.

The R560 or R760 machines can be used to form the blister trays. The Formed trays and products to be filled are placed manually into the containment. The operator then fills the trays and seals them inside the RS570. In order to operate the sealing head the operator has to press buttons with both hands. This ensures that he cannot trap himself in the sealing station.

Once the blister trays have been filled and sealed inside the containment the products can be removed from the RS570. The R560 that formed the trays can be re-tooled with a Punch Perforation tool and used to punch the Sealed Blister Trays.

The RS570 has been used to fill powders, liquid and tablets.

The sealing area of the RS570 matches the 184 x 119 mm of the R560 and R760 machines.

The Choice is yours – containment customised to your requirements

The containment for the RS570 small scale sterile blister sealing machine depend on the specific requirements of the products and process. For single products where cleaning is limited a Flexible containment as shown above is relatively cost effective. The Skin of the containment act as a disposable skin that would need to be replaced to run a different product.
A fixed containment would allow for cleaning.
Glove ports are standard for any containment solution. However options such as sleuths, RTP and the full range of containment accessories are available. The image below shows the RS570 with fixed containment, glove ports, sleuths and RTP:

Sterile Blister Sealing for Small Batches

The RS570 is the missing relative of the Rohrer Family of Machinery. It fills the Gap between the recently launched R950HP fully automatic Blister Machine in High containment and the update of the small scale “Table Top”  R550 to the R560 blister machine.

The R560 can be used to manufacture small blister batches. The Tooling is manually changed to allow forming, sealing and punching to take place on the same machine. It’s the ideal companion for small batches. Tooling available includes nitrogen purge tooling and one step sealing punching tools.

Small but Powerfull

The Rs570 is fitted with all the standard controls of a machine. All functions are controlled via a HMI (Human-Machine-Interface), basically a touch-screen computer which also ensures monitoring of all process parameters. Data logging can be integrated as well. The RS570 meets the requirements of CFR21 part 11 and Annex 11.

Upscaling

The RS570 can be semi-automated to allow some automation of the blister handling functions in the Blister station. The scope of any automation can be tailored to your specific requirements.

Bautz has recently shipped an Aerosol Valve Function Tester for MDI inhalation aerosols. The customer was looking for a flexible machine to use in Product development. He wanted to be able to set the number of sprays as well as spray duration. Weigh cells were to measure the amount discharged. Bautz developed the VFT 60 in response to their customers requirements.

Something old, something new…

The VFT 60 is based on their established optical valve function testers already in the field in the pharmaceutical industry. Using the same turret mechanism for turning the can and placing into the spray testing station the VFT 60 uses optical infra red sensors to measure the spray. The sensors verify the given spray duration.

Unlike its predecessors the VFT 60 has two integrated weigh cells. The fingers on the turret deposit the can onto each weighcell before and after spraying. This allow the system to calculate the exact weigh discharged in the spray test. During the spray test Servo motors control the distance the valve is actuated. These can be adjusted from the HMI and saved in the recipe for each format.

The machine also measures the spring return force of the valves.

The Unit was shipped with an In-feed turntable with in-feed plate allowing the customer to load and unload directly from the Aerosol Valve testing machine.

At the out-feed the 3 reject bins ensure the rejects can be identified by cause. The operator can assign reject causes to each bin.
